A man is drawing attention online after reporting how a simple overtaking maneuver is about to turn into a serious criminal case.
Kaniye posted a video on his TikTok profile to recount the incident. According to him, he was on a two-lane highway when he decided to overtake a vehicle that was moving well below the speed limit.
However, according to Kaniye, the other driver accelerated and moved into the opposite lane, forcing him off the road and onto the grass. “Luckily, I had a reasonably fast car, so I was able to accelerate, overtake him, and get back on the road,” he said.
Upon returning to the lane, the other driver collided with the passenger door of Kaniye’s car. At that moment, a police officer who witnessed the incident up close stopped both drivers.
The other driver immediately claimed that Kaniye had hit him and said he had dashcam footage to prove it. While one officer reviewed the footage, Kaniye spoke with a second officer who told him that if his account matched the dashcam video, the case would be in his favor.
After reviewing the footage, the officer concluded that both drivers shared some responsibility. Kaniye said he received a fine for overtaking in a prohibited area, while the other driver received what Kaniye described as “a much heavier fine.”
The situation became complicated when the other driver demanded a payment from Kaniye. “The other guy [said] I needed to pay him $6,000 to fix his car and cover depreciation,” he explained in his account.
The driver also claimed that Kaniye had no insurance and had committed a hit-and-run. But both allegations, according to Kaniye, were false.
When the driver threatened to sue him, Kaniye encouraged him to proceed, confident that the lies would be exposed in court.
Fortunately, the insurance company’s decision was completely in Kaniye’s favor. “The insurer immediately said he was 100% responsible and I had no responsibility [for the incident],” Kaniye said.
But even with the decision in Kaniye’s favor, the other driver did not back down. He refused to pay and filed a complaint against Kaniye with the police department, involving the police chief and other staff.
According to Kaniye, authorities determined that the other driver was lying and refusing to take responsibility for the accident. “Now the case is entering the phase of opening a criminal proceeding,” Kaniye added, saying he would keep his followers updated on the case.
